Terms of Use
These terms (including the community rules in section 5) are the end-user license agreement for Scroll Movies. They are an agreement between you and Eli Riedel, who operates Scroll Movies ("we", "us"). By taking the movie personality quiz, creating an account, starting a trial, subscribing, or otherwise using the app or website, you agree to them and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use Scroll Movies.
Privacy and advertising measurement. We advertise Scroll Movies on Facebook, Instagram and Reddit and use Meta Platforms and Reddit as advertising measurement partners. The Privacy Policy explains what the app and website share with them (for Meta, app events such as install, account creation, quiz completion and checkout started, only if you allow tracking, and trial and membership events sent through RevenueCat; for Reddit, trial and membership events sent by our server, only if you allow tracking, and website visits only after you accept the cookie banner; your device's advertising identifier only when you allow tracking), why, and how to turn it off: iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking, the "Share usage data" switch in the app, "Cookie settings" on the website, and Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information. Scroll Movies itself shows no ads.
The short version. Scroll Movies is a paid membership that renews automatically until you cancel. The yearly plan can start with a 7-day free trial; the monthly plan has no trial. The price, billing period and trial are shown before you pay. Cancel any time: App Store memberships in your Apple Account's Subscriptions settings, web memberships under Settings › Membership in the app. Trailers are played by YouTube and film information comes from TMDB; we don't host or sell films. There is zero tolerance for abusive content or members.
1. What Scroll Movies is
Scroll Movies is a membership app for discovering films and TV series: a personalized vertical feed of trailers and other videos, title pages with cast, ratings and where to watch, a watchlist, ratings and reviews of what you've seen, TV episode tracking, comments, messages, shared lists, the ability to follow other members and the people who make films, and notifications about activity that involves you. Scroll Movies is not a streaming service: it does not show full films or episodes.
2. Your license to use the app
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Scroll Movies app on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial enjoyment, as allowed by these terms and, if you got the app from the App Store, by the Usage Rules in Apple's Media Services Terms. You may not copy, modify, resell, reverse-engineer, or redistribute the app, except where the law allows it despite this restriction.
3. Membership, free trial and automatic renewal
- Membership is required to use the app beyond the movie personality quiz and onboarding. It is an auto-renewing subscription, billed yearly or monthly. The current price for each plan, in your currency, is shown on the membership screen and on the checkout page before you pay.
- It renews automatically. Your membership continues and you are charged the then-current price at the start of each new yearly or monthly period until you cancel.
- Free trial. The yearly plan can start with a 7-day free trial for new members (one per person, per Apple Account or Scroll Movies account). The monthly plan has no trial. If you don't cancel before the trial ends, the yearly membership starts and you are charged the yearly price when the trial ends, and every year after that until you cancel. Cancelling during the trial costs nothing. The date your trial ends is shown in the app under Settings › Membership. We do not send a separate reminder before a 7-day trial ends.
- Buying through the App Store. Apple is the seller and charges your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase or, for a trial, when the trial ends. The membership renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the trial or current period; your account is charged for renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends. Manage or cancel in your device's Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions. Any unused part of a free trial ends when you buy a subscription. Refunds for App Store purchases are handled only by Apple, under Apple's terms.
- Buying through our web checkout (United States). In the United States, the membership screen also offers a link to our own checkout page on the web, which opens in Safari. It is run by RevenueCat and Stripe, and you can pay by card or Apple Pay. When you've paid, you return to scrollmovies.app and then to the app. We are the seller for these purchases. By starting the purchase you authorize us to charge your payment method the price shown, at the start of the paid period and at each renewal, until you cancel. We will email you a confirmation that includes these renewal terms, the cancellation policy and how to cancel.
- How to cancel a web membership. In the app, go to Settings › Membership and cancel there, online, at any time. You can also email hello@scrollmovies.app from your account email and we will cancel it and confirm by email. Cancellation stops future charges; you keep access until the end of the trial or the period you've already paid for.
- Web refunds. If you are charged for a web membership and didn't mean to be (for example, you forgot to cancel a trial or a renewal), email us within 14 days of the charge and we'll refund that charge. Otherwise we don't give partial refunds for unused time, except where the law requires it or as described in section 9.
- Price changes. We may change membership prices. We will tell you before a new price applies to your membership, and you can cancel before it takes effect. For App Store memberships, Apple sends the notice and may ask for your consent.
- One membership, everywhere. A membership bought through the web checkout works in the app once you sign in with the same account, and an App Store membership follows your Scroll Movies account once you sign in.
- California and other automatic-renewal laws. Before you pay, the app shows the price, how often you'll be charged, the trial length and that the membership renews until you cancel. You can cancel online at any time as described above, and for web memberships we send the confirmation described above. If we change the price or the renewal terms of a web membership, we tell you beforehand as the law requires.
4. Your account
- You must be at least 13 years old, and old enough in your country to agree to these terms and to our processing of your data yourself. If you are under 18 (or the age of majority where you live), you need a parent or guardian's permission, and they agree to these terms on your behalf.
- You can sign in with Apple, with Google, or with your email address and a password. When you sign up with email, or reset your password, we email you a 6-digit code to confirm it's you. Keep your sign-in details private. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
- One account per person. Don't share a membership.
- You can delete your account at any time in the app: Settings › Delete account (at the bottom). Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store membership; Apple manages those, so cancel it in your Apple Account's Subscriptions settings. A renewing web membership is cancelled as part of deleting your account; if it can't be cancelled automatically, the app asks you to cancel it under Settings › Membership (section 3) first. If you are ever charged for a web membership after deleting your account, email us and we'll cancel and refund it.
5. Your content and the community rules (zero tolerance)
Comments and replies, reviews and ratings, messages, notes you send with a title, list names and the titles you add to shared lists, your username, display name, bio and profile photo are "your content". You keep ownership of it. When you delete a comment, review or your account, what you wrote is removed; if other people replied to a comment, their replies may stay under a "[deleted]" marker. You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, display, and distribute your content within Scroll Movies for as long as it is posted, and to keep copies as needed for moderation, safety, and legal reasons. Public content (your profile, comments and reviews) can be seen by other members; messages are visible to the people in the conversation, and shared lists to their members. In return:
- Don't post or send anything hateful, harassing, bullying, threatening, sexually explicit, violent, illegal, deceptive, or spam, or anything that exploits or endangers minors.
- Don't post spoilers without marking them. Use the spoiler switch on reviews and comments.
- Don't impersonate anyone or post things you don't have the right to share, including photos of other people without their permission.
- Don't share links to pirated films or series, or use Scroll Movies to infringe anyone's copyright.
- Don't try to break, scrape, or overload the service, get around the paywall, or use Scroll Movies for anything other than personal enjoyment of film and TV.
There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive members. Comments, reviews, messages, notes sent with titles, usernames, display names, bios and list names pass an automated word filter, and a person reviews reports. You can report any comment, review, message, list or member from inside the app and block anyone. Blocking someone ends follows between you both ways, and they can no longer message you, send you titles or invite you to lists. You choose who can message you in the app's settings: everyone, people you follow, or no one. We review reports within 24 hours and remove objectionable content and suspend or remove the accounts responsible. Messages are private between the people in the conversation, but they are stored on our servers and, if a message is reported, we can review it to enforce these rules. We may remove content, restrict features, or close accounts that break these rules; if we close your account for breaking them, we don't refund the current period.
6. Trailers, film information and where to watch
- Trailers are played by YouTube. Scroll Movies doesn't host, copy or edit videos. Trailers and other videos are played in YouTube's embedded player, from YouTube, and remain the property of their owners. By watching them in Scroll Movies you also agree to the YouTube Terms of Service, and Google handles data from the player under the Google Privacy Policy. Videos can be removed or made unavailable by their owners or by YouTube at any time. To skip studio logos, we may start a trailer a few seconds in, at the point where its content begins.
- Film and series information comes from TMDB. Titles, descriptions, posters, backdrops, cast and crew and the list of videos for each title come from The Movie Database (TMDB). This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB. That information is contributed by TMDB's community and may be incomplete or wrong.
- Where to watch is informational. Streaming, rental and purchase availability comes from TMDB and the Movie of the Night Streaming Availability API, differs by country and changes often. We can't promise a title is available where we say it is, at the price shown by the service, or at all. Links open the streaming service's own app or website; your use of those services is governed by their terms, and we are not responsible for them. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by any studio, distributor or streaming service; their names and images identify the films and services they belong to.
- AI-assisted processing. To decide where each trailer's content starts, we use an AI model (Anthropic's Claude) on our servers to look at frames of the trailer. It may occasionally pick the wrong moment. It never receives your personal data.
- Ours. The Scroll Movies name and logo, design, quiz, movie personalities, and our own writing belong to us. Please don't reuse them without permission, except for sharing cards and links using the app's share features.
7. Copyright complaints (DMCA)
We respond to notices of alleged copyright infringement under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. §512). To be effective, your notice must be in writing and include:
- a physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or a person authorized to act for them;
- identification of the copyrighted work you claim is infringed (or, for several works, a representative list);
- identification of the material you claim is infringing, with enough information for us to find it in Scroll Movies (for example the title it appears on, the comment or review text and username, or a screenshot);
- your contact information: name, postal address, telephone number, and email address;
- a statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law; and
- a statement that the information in the notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the owner or authorized to act on the owner's behalf.
Send notices to our copyright agent: Eli Riedel, hello@scrollmovies.app, 216 Flint Ridge Rd, Apt 2201, San Marcos, TX 78666, United States. Please put "Copyright notice" in the subject line. Trailers are hosted by YouTube, not by us: to have a video itself removed, use YouTube's copyright process; we can also stop showing a specific video in Scroll Movies if you tell us which one.
If your content was removed and you believe it was a mistake or misidentification, you can send a counter-notice under 17 U.S.C. §512(g) to the same address. We remove material that is the subject of a valid notice, and we close the accounts of repeat infringers. Knowingly false notices or counter-notices can create liability for damages.
8. Other services
Scroll Movies relies on services run by others: YouTube for video playback, TMDB and Movie of the Night for film data and availability, Apple and Google for sign-in, and Apple, RevenueCat and Stripe for payments. Their terms apply to your use of their services, and we are not responsible for their content, availability or practices.
9. Availability, changes and termination
We work to keep Scroll Movies running, but we don't promise it will always be available or error-free, or that any particular film, series or video will be in it. We may add, change, or remove features. You can stop using Scroll Movies at any time. We may suspend or close your account if you break these terms or if we have to for legal reasons. If we discontinue the service entirely, we will refund the unused part of any prepaid web membership; for App Store memberships we will stop renewals and point you to Apple's refund process.
10. Disclaimer and limitation of liability
Scroll Movies is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all implied warranties, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or US$50. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law (for example for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud), or takes away rights you have as a consumer under the law where you live.
11. Apple-specific terms
If you downloaded the app from Apple's App Store, you and we also agree that:
- These terms are between you and us only, not Apple. We, not Apple, are solely responsible for the app and its content.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app.
- If the app fails to conform to any warranty that applies to it, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any) for the app. To the maximum extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claims from you or anyone else relating to the app or your use of it, including product liability claims, claims that the app fails to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims under consumer protection, privacy, or similar laws.
- If anyone claims the app or your use of it infringes their intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are responsible for investigating, defending, settling, and discharging that claim.
- You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo or designated as "terrorist supporting", and that you are not on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- You must comply with any third-party terms that apply when you use the app (for example, your mobile data provider's terms and the YouTube Terms of Service).
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and, once you accept them, may enforce them against you.
- Questions, complaints, or claims about the app go to us, using the contact details below.
12. Governing law and disputes
Please contact us first; most problems can be fixed by email. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, and applicable US federal law, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Hays County, Texas. If you are a consumer living in the European Union, the United Kingdom, or another country whose law gives you that right, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of your country and may bring a claim in your local courts.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change is material, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect, and the date at the top will change. If you keep using Scroll Movies after the change takes effect, the new terms apply; if you don't agree, cancel your membership and stop using Scroll Movies. Changes never apply to a charge you have already paid.
14. General
If any part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a term right away, we can still enforce it later. You may not transfer these terms to anyone else; we may transfer them to a company that takes over Scroll Movies. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about Scroll Movies.
